Game Awards 2018 Recap - (Part 2) Announcements/Reveals

This year's Game Awards event was jammed packed with content. We got to see many of our favorite personalities in gaming on stage, and some really talented teams walked away proud. This year's ceremony was a whopping 3 hours long, so I have divided this recap in two parts. Part 1 breaks down the winners of the awards, while Part 2 will recap some of the many announcements, updates, and reveals that dropped during the awards. This is Part 2: Reveals/Announcements. To watch the entire ceremony click below.

The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe - Coming to Consoles

With new endings and a new audience coming to consoles for the first time, this award winning story is coming back to the forefront of our attention in 2019.

Rocket League: McLaren

For what starts off looking like it belongs in a Forza commercial, instead we see this drop dead gorgeous McLaren in none other than ROCKET LEAGUE! Available Now.

PUBG - Vikendi "Winter is Coming"

In my favorite trailer of the night, PUBG announces and shows more about their new winter map. This trailer made me literally laugh as a small bird steals the pin of a grenade of a fallen player, causing a cut to an explosion. The trailer is well shot and clever. The new map will add a layer of strategy to a game. Snow means footprints, and players will be able to track and be tracked in the snow. Time will tell how this changes things for the battle royale shooter.

Alita: Battle Angel

A little out of place feeling at a gaming event, a short new trailer was shown for Alita: Battle Angel, an upcoming semi live action semi CG film about a machines. The movie lookes like it is going to have so much CGI it might as well be a video game with no gameplay. At an event that also had the Russo brothers, I think we can all agree what movie trailer we REALLY wanted... Either way, this movie still looks totally weird but cool at the same time.

Far Cry: New Dawn

*Spoilers for Far Cry 5 Ending* Leaked slightly ahead of the event, we get a first look at the next Far Cry game. I'm not sure how to classify this. It is not a DLC, Ubisoft is specifically marketing this as a "direct stand alone sequel" to Far Cry 5. But it's short appearance a year after Far Cry 5, and short marketing time frame ahead of release, and its only 40$ price tag, all make me feel like it is still an "in between-quel" (yes I know that is not a thing), much more in line of Far Cry Primal or Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon. Given Far Cry's non linear non connected system for its series, it can be hard to know what a game is. This definitely is not Far Cry 6, that would have way more hype and marketing time. It would not surprise me, if this was a smaller budget with a reused and modified map from 5. If you really enjoyed Far Cry 5 like I did, perhaps this will be a fun addition, but if not, Far Cry 6 might be the game to wait for. Only time will tell. This game is the post apocalyptic setting of what happens to Hope County after the bombs fell. I wonder if this is Ubisoft predicting a rush of desire for the nuclear fallout genre, capitalizing and competing on it with Fallout 76 and Rage 2 all going to be active throughout 2019.

Rage 2 New Open World Trailer

Speaking of post apocalyptic open world games, we got a look at more of Rage 2! Check out the crazy trailer here! Also, it gets a release date, May 14, 2019.

Anthem Story Trailer

Anthem is only two months away and still up to this point all we have known is that Anthem is a destiny wannabe Iron man simulator from everyones beloved studio Bioware. Bioware has been keeping details on this game so hush hush that we hardly know much about it. We only recently even learned what "anthem" even meant in lore. Anthem is a term used for the source of cosmic power in the games lore. (AKA, the Force, the Light (Destiny) you get the picture). But now, we finally get a story trailer. We get a sneak peak at what looks like the villain of the story, why they fly around in "javelins", and destruction unleashed on the world. I speak for myself, when I say I cannot wait to get my hands on Bioware's next game!

DMC 5 New Trailer

Are you confused about the linear progression of Devil May Cry's story? That's ok, so am I. I am one of those few who only played a little of the originals and know very little about them. I have played the newer DMC twice on 360 and One, and this is not a sequel to the reboot. Instead, Capcom has scrapped their reboot in favor of continuing the path of the originals all while keeping the new look and designs of the newer game. It is going to be a unique experience to say the least. At least I can say, it looks to be a wild ride. This year at the Game Awards 2018, we get a new trailer and look of the upcoming hack n slasher.

Persona 5's Joker arrives in Super Smash Bros Ultimate in DLC

Is it weird to anyone else that a character from a PS4 exclusive will be a DLC character in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, a Nintendo Switch exclusive? No? Ok... Well hopefully this is some nice foreshadowing of the much fan requested port of Persona 5 to Nintendo Switch. In the mean time, be on the look out for Joker in the DLC line up for Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Super Smash Bros Ultimate is available now!

Fortnite: Season 7 and "The Block"

Fortnite Season 7 is here. While it launched the morning of the event, we did get a look at it. The update brings a winter mode (hmmm...where did we see winter in a battle royale mode yet today...) and an annoucnement around a new custom mode. Creative Mode will give players their own island to be creative and build. Players will be able to unleash their creativity. This lead to "The Block" a new place on map that will showcase player made creations.
