New Game Tuesday, Games Releasing - 7/2 - 7/8

This week's NGT is exciting for indie fans. The critically acclaimed indie piece What Remains of Edith Finch is coming to Nintendo Switch. As well, the latest in the EA Originals, Sea of Solitude is coming. This game looked really fun and so far the EA Originals games have been pretty great. EA claims to take no sales profits from helping these small indie developers get awareness, a shining piece in a company otherwise deep in controversies. Final Fantasy fans can also look forward to the much anticipated Shadowbringers update to FFXIV. Netflix's first succesful foray into gaming with their retro style Stranger Things game, is releasing its third installment. And lastly, I can't say how amped I am for the second season of Apex Legends. This looks to be the biggest update to one of the biggest games of 2019 so far. My favorite Titanfall weapon, a fun new character, map changes, and more launch today.

"New Game Tuesday" showcases some major game releases from Tuesday to the following Monday. Scroll down to see if any of the major releases appeal to you!

My favorite game of the year so far, Apex Legends is getting its biggest update since launch. Season 2 is bringing over my favorite gun from Titanfall 2, the L-Star, as powerful Gold Legendary Weapon. We are seeing major map changes, creatures on the map, a revamped battlepass, a ranked mode, disconnect penalties (Thank GOD finally) and a fun new character!

2. shaoowbringers - Final Fantasy XiV

Final Fantasy fans can look forward to a major update the Square Enix's Final Fantasy MMO, XIV that drops today.

3. sea of solitude

Release Date: 7/5

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC

Developer: Jo-Mei Games

Publisher: EA

EA is a lot of things. Gamers have a lot of opinions about EA. Some deserves, perhaps some not. Whatever you think of EA, the fact of gaming is it can be very very hard to be an indie devloper. Standing out, building and publishing games can be very tedious to do alone. That is exactly why I initally built GiFriends before expanding it from just devlopers to include cosplayers and streamers. I wanted to be a platform that helped support indie games too. EA Originals is an awesome concept. EA makes no sales profits from these games, those go to independant developers. It is a cool way to give back and support the next generation of game makers. Even if you don't like EA, supporting these small teams is a guilt free option with EA Originals. Sea of Solitude is the most recent game in this program and it looks really good so far. Some stand out gems like like Fe or A Way Out may have gone under the radar without EA Originals and I'm glad for it. I can't wait to check out Sea of Solitude.

4. stranger things 3: The Game

Release Date: 7/4

Platforms: PS4, Switch, Xbox One, PC, iOS, Android

Developer: BonusXP

Publisher: Netflix

I never played the first two Stranger Things games, so I can't personally speak to their quality; however I have always found them odd. Netflix has been open about it desires to breach into the gaming they have been unusually cautious about it. Aside from some "interactive" episodes on Netflix itself, this simple retro style game seems like an overly timid first attempt at game publishing. Original Content like House of Cards and the beginning of cord cutting revolution was lead charge by Netflix, so a simple game that could easily be mistaken as a indie game, being their first attempt seems too little. Why waste one of their biggest current franchises, when they could hire a more well known developer to make a more modern game? If Netflix wants to become a serious major publisher in the gaming industry, they need to try way harder. Either way this game is dropping pretty much everywhere, so it may be worth trying.

5. what remains of edith finch (On Switch)

Release Date: 7/4

Platforms: Xbox One, PC, PS4, Now Nintendo Switch*

One of 2017's best games is finally making its way to Nintendo Switch. This indie exploration game is a collection of short stories about a cursed family living in Washington. It was widely considered to be one of the better indie titles that year and some outlets crowned it GOTY.

6. red faction guerrilla Re-mars-tered (Switch)
