D23 Expo 2019 - Biggest Announcements
Disney has just finished its D23 Expo event and while none of the announcements were especially gaming related, there was a treasure trove of Marvel and Star Wars announcements that I figured overlapped enough with the gamer community to warrant a recap! Here are the biggest reveals at D23 Expo 2019.
have some marvel with your marvel
Marvel showed us more of its upcoming projects! We learned that She Hulk, Moon Knight, and Ms. Marvel are getting Disney+ shows! Since the entire Marvel "Netflix- MCU" got snapped, they need to start filling that tv void and Disney seems to be throwing everything at the wall. We also got to see a huge cast reveal for Eternals. One big piece of news out of that reveal is that Game of Thrones' Kit Harington and Richard Madden are NOW IN THE MCU in the Eternals. Kit will be playing a character Black Knight, and I can't think of a more obvious and better role for him in the MCU. We already know he can rock a black suit and sword. Will we get to see Rob and Jon finally fight together?
Black Panther 2 also got a release date and confirmation! Black Panther 2 will hit theaters May 6 2022.
Obi-wan is back!
Ewan McGregor is BACK as OBIWAN. We don't really know how or to what extent otherwise than the vague promise of an Obi-wan Disney + series. Disney finally learned what fans want when they brought back the beloved actor and the best thing to come out of the prequels. Ewan McGregor is back as Obiwan, Patrick Stewart is back as Picard. It is a great time to be a space nerd. If they miss the opportunity to have Obiwan and Han Solo walk past each other on screen and have no one notice but the audience, I think that will be an unforgivable sin. That being said, I can't wait for a next generation of Hello There memes for until the end of internet times.
The Mandalorian trailer
Finally. Finally the Mandalorian trailer that has been hyped up since Star Wars Celebration and even before finally dropped. It is here. It is a gritty wild Wild West in SPACE and I can't wait for Disney+. I made sure to make sure several of my coworkers stopped what they were doing to watch the trailer with me. It was glorious.
the rise of Skywalker
At first I thought all we were going to get for Rise of Skywalker was this admittedly amazing poster that is our first official visual confirmation that Sideous is back and real. All we got before was a mysterious laugh and now his insidious ugly face is right there on the poster. However, just when we thought the star wars news was done and all our guards were down. A surprise new trailer dropped. Stop reading and watch it now. The first few moments are an odd flashback to early Star Wars before getting to the "real trailer" but it contains something for sure ready to break the internet.
