New Game Tuesday, Games Releasing 8/27 - 9/2

This week's NGT is going to be HUGE. After several dry months the first sign that winter is coming is here. September approaches along with its never ending onslaught of game releases leading up to Holiday 2019. Like last year these next three months are just as jam packed as ever, and we can only hope that our favorite series can survive the battle royale that is the Christmas shopping season. Below are just some of the biggest games releasing this week.
"New Game Tuesday" showcases some major game releases from Tuesday to the following Monday. Scroll down to see if any of the major releases appeal to you!
1. Astral chain
Release Date: 8/30
Platforms: Nintendo Switch
Developer: Plantinum Games
Publisher: Nintendo
I have been excited for Astral Chain since its first reveal during a Nintendo Direct, and has been one of my most anticipated this year. Everything from the art style, the premise, and the action looks incredible. I can't wait to have this on the go on the Nintendo Switch. It's early reviews have been super positive, so I have a feeling this will be a surprise hit of 2019. The gameplay looks fluid and fun, and early gameplay demos and streams I've watch have only gotten me more excited.
2. man of medan
Release Date: 8/30
Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC
Developer: Supermassive Games
Publisher: Bandai Namco
Until Dawn remains to this day one of my favorite horror games. It is takes a gaming genre that is notoriously ugly and dark and made a game that managed to be visually stunning. Supermassive's Until Dawn was a Heavy Rain or Detroit become Human but in the horror genre but with the super cinematic nature that we expect from Quantic Dream. These two developers are the only ones I've seen take gaming in this direction with their game design wizardry. Supermassive is now creating their own gaming anthology universe "The Dark Pictures". Man of Medan is the first in this five game series that features their cinematic horror with a heavy focus on player choice and also the ability to play with friends. At half off regular new AAA price, this game looks to be super fun at only $29.99.
3. blair witch
Update Date: 8/30
Platforms: PC, Xbox One
Developer: Bloober Team
Publisher: Bloober Team
Horror fans will have their pick this week, with in addition to Man of Medan the game adaptation of Blair Witch is also arriving this week! This first person horror game set in Blair Witch universe is set to arrive, and while this genre is not usually my cup of tea, it is coming to Game Pass at launch so that will be a easy try for gamers.
4. control
Release Date: 8/27
Platforms: PS4, Xbox One
Developer: Remedy Entertainment
Publisher: 505 Games
I do believe I was one of 5 people who actually really enjoyed Quantum Break. I thought the time bending action shooter was super fun. I enjoyed the story and actually thought the live action cutscenes were unique. Secretly I've been hoping for a sequel for years now and to no avail. However, when Remedy's next game, Control was announced I figured this was the next best thing. Instead of time powers Control features a character who shares my name, Jesse who has telekenetic powers. This game looks incredible and early reviews have been super positive. I can't wait to try it and share with you.
5. world of warcraft classic
Release Date: 8/27
Platforms: PC
Developer/Publisher: Blizzard
WOW has never been a franchise I've played much of but I know how integral it has been to the history of modern games and how huge of a brand it is. Many of my friends who still play WOW are excited to revisit the classic version of WOW. It speaks to the legacy and long lasting nature that has been WOW that it has existed and evolved for so long that the original and current versions can be considered different enough to be a new game. This is the first "un-remaster" I have ever seen, and I think that is pretty cool.
6. ancestors: the humankind odyssey
Release Date: 8/27
Platforms: PC
Developer: Panache Digital Games
Publisher: Private Division
Ancestors is a hard core survival game where you play as early Apes in pre-historic settings. The initial look and premise seemed interesting although not my style, All early reviews of this game that I have read so far are Average to Poor. This game is supposed to come to console in December but with these early poor reviews I doubt that happening. Unless you are a hard core survival genre fan this may be a skip for you.
7. crystar (Now in the west)
Release Date: 8/27
Platforms: PC, PS4,
Developer: FuRyu, Gemdrops Inc,
Publisher: FuRyu, Spike Chunsoft
Releasing last year in Japan was Crystar, a Japanese action jrpg is now coming to the west on PS4 and PC. This game looks pretty fun and may fill the jrpg void for those not interested in Astral this week or don't have a Switch. I am interested to learn more about this game and maybe check it out.
