New Game Tuesday, Games Releasing 9/24 - 9/30

This week's NGT is a big one with dozens of larger Switch ports, a major PC title hitting console, and other hotly anticipated titles! I am most excited for Code Vein of which I have been enjoying the early access demo. Sports fans can also look forward to the next installment in the successful FIFA franchise.

"New Game Tuesday" showcases some major game releases from Tuesday to the following Monday. Scroll down to see if any of the major releases appeal to you!

1. Code Vein

Release Date: 9/27

Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, PC

Developer: Bandai Namco

Publisher: Bandai Namco

Code Vein has been called a anime inspired dark souls, and while I haven't played enough of the game yet to know if it can reach those levels of difficulty, I can see how the gameplay and world can emulate that. The early demo has been incredible and I may try to get out a early review before release. Code Vein also features one of the best character creators I have seen, at the levels of Soulcalibur or Black Desert. The gameplay is super fun and the animations are smooth. A few hours in I really enjoyed this anime vampire adventure.

2. tropico 6 comes to console

Release Date: 9/27

Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One

Developer: Limbic Entertainment

Publisher: Kalypso Media

Massive world sim Tropico has been a cult classic and pc favorite in the sim fan bases and the latest and biggest is now coming to xbox one and ps4.

3. ori and the blind forest comes to Nintendo Switch

Release Date: 9/27

Platforms: PC, Xbox One, *New on Switch

Developer: Moon Studios

Publisher: Xbox Games Studios

In an unusual turn of events Microsoft and Nintendo have started to become close friends with the two companies working closely together. Xbox announced that Xbox Live achievements would be hitting Nintendo Switch, and previously exclusive Cuphead hit Nintendo Switch. Many predict this relationship between Microsoft and Nintendo to only grow with rumors of things like GamePass, xCloud, and more Xbox Game Studios games coming to Nintendo Switch. Ori and the Blind Forest was a critically acclaimed indie platformer with an impending sequel next year. Now you can catch up with the first one on Switch!

4. contra rogue corps

Release Date: 9/24

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PC

Developer: Konami, Toylogic

Publisher: Konami

Contra fans may be disappointed in this one as early reviews have been less than positive. I must admit my first impression of this game is that it is 2 generations late looking like something that should be on a PS2. With scores like 4/10, it looks like it may be another swing and a miss after Metal Gear Survive for the Post-Kojima Konami studio. That being said if you are a die hard contra fan looking to reminisce about this aged series, a new entry is landing this week.

5. Darksiders 2 Deathinitive edition now on Switch

Release Date: 9/26

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PC

Developer: Gunfire Games, Vigil Games

Publisher: THQ Nordic

Play as Death in the second installment of Darksiders. I've owned three versions of DS2 but I've still never finished it. It is such a long game and every attempt to play from beginning to end has failed. Plus I preferred the first game which I have finished twice and several partials. However, this series is amazing enough to try on the go.

6. Fifa20

Release Date: 9/27

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC

Developer: EA

Publisher: EA

If Europeans call American Football, "American Football" why do we Americans call Soccer, "Soccer" and not European Football? That's about as much energy as I can put towards sports games. Enjoy your macro transactions.

7. The surge 2

Release Date: 9/24

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC

Developer: Deck13

Publisher: Focus Home Interactive

The Surge was one of those games I would have bet would be a forgotten, definitely worth skipping, generic games that launch somewhere between AAA and small budget indie games that I call B games; Bigger budget but not great. Somehow though it did well enough to warrant itself a sequel and early reviews of Surge 2 have been somewhat positive. If you are looking for another Soulsbourne type game you might enjoy Surge 2.

8. dragon quest XI S Echoes of an Elusive Age Definitive Edition (Now that's a long title...)

Release Date: 9/27

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PC

Developer: Square Enix, Toylogic, ORCA

Publisher: Square Enix

This is one of those JRPG series I never really got into, but it has a huge following and many enjoyed Dragonquest XI, and now it is launching on Nintendo Switch.

9. baldur's gate 1 & 2 enhanced edition

Release Date: 9/24

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mobile

Developer: Overhaul Games

Publisher: Atari???

Cult classics Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 are getting enhanced ports for current gen ahead of its eventual release of Baldur's Gate 3. If BG3 interested you or you want to relive the originals, these can be a great way to prepare yourself before the third's release. Also, hold up, Atari apparently still publishes games?
