New Game Tuesday, Games Releasing 10/15 - 10/21

This week's NGT brings some major games to Nintendo Switch, with current generation major titles like Witcher and Overwatch. Apex Legend's Halloween Event "Fight or Fright" is dropping today, along with the full 1.0 version of PVZ Battle for Neighborville. A random movie license game from the Ice Age franchise is dropping, which is unusual as there is no movie coming out or have there been one recently. Last but not least we get major news on the future of Fortnite thanks to a Black Hole....
"New Game Tuesday" showcases some major game releases from Tuesday to the following Monday. Scroll down to see if any of the major releases appeal to you!
1. The Witcher III Wild Hunt (New on Switch)
Release Date: 10/15
Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, PC, New on Nintendo Switch
Developer: CD Project Red
Publisher: CD Project Red
Often referred to as one of the greatest games of this console generation, the Witcher 3 is a massive open world RPG, and it is now coming to Nintendo Switch. This massive game is best in 4K on a powerful console or PC, but early adopters have said the dressed down version built for Switch is very well made considering and may be worth it to have it on the go.
2. Overwatch (New on Switch)
Release Date: 10/15
Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One, New on Nintendo Switch
Developer: Blizzard
Publisher: Blizzard
The Nintendo Switch gains another massive game coming to its platform with 2016's massive hit Overwatch. I have spent 1000's of hours in overwatch, and I often cite it as one of my favorite games of all time. I have countless legendary skins, and IRL hoodies, hats, shirts, and collectibles.
However, I really wish Blizzard would have delayed this launch by at least a month and made some excuse. This is just an absolutely awful time to go ahead with release for Blizzard. If you go on the Overwatch twitter page and look under posts about Overwatch on Switch, instead of seeing countless fans excited about this new option to play, 99% of the comments are about something else entirely. The Blitzchung controversy deserves an entire article in of itself and I am currently writing one to release soon. But for this NGT, I will say Blizzard continuing to push forward with this game release during all this will only hurt sales. Blizzard is losing a PR war and releasing this now is just a poor short sighted decision. Blizzard already cancelled a Launch Event for Switch Overwatch in New York because of protestors. if you have to cancel a major event and #boycottblizzard is trending on social media for a week, is it really a great time to release anything?
On top of this controversy, Blizzard has done nothing to assure long time fans why this port is worth it. Blizzard has commented from Day 1 how "hard it would be" to port Overwatch to Switch and maintain it. The fact that it now exists three years later with no explanation as to why it's suddenly possible now and not then is somewhat unfair to long time players. Also Blizzard has made comments as to how difficult it would be to include "cross progression" so players who have been playing since Day 1 could keep all their skins and play on multiple platforms. This is something I call complete and utter corporate bullshit on as it is the kind of corporate greed Blizzard doesn't need right now. There couldn't be anything more easy that cross progression and failing to include this might make Overwatch on Switch a hard pass for even die hard fans like me who WANT to be excited about this. I want to Overwatch on Switch, but losing all progress on a three year old game is short sighted and poorly planned on Blizzard's part. Taking three years and failing to include cross progression is a slap in the face to Overwatch fans.
3. Apex Legends Season 3, (Fight or Fright halloween Event) / retail boxed edition
Release Date: 10/15 - Collection Event, 10/18 Retail Boxed Editions
Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC
Developer: Respawn Entertainment
Publisher: EA
In more positive news, there's a major update to Apex Legends. Not only has the fantastic Season 3 and new map launched, but this week we are getting really cool boxed special editions with exclusive skins. On top of that, today we are getting a Fight or Fright Collection Event. This Halloween event will bring a night King's Canyon map and Zombie like mode.
4. plants vs zombies Battle for Neighborville
Release Date: 10/18
Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC,
Developer: PopCap Games
Publisher: EA
Plants vs Zombies Battle for Neighborville launches in the full 1.0 version after having a Founder's Edition available. PVZBFN is a a more live service style version of the garden warfare franchise, but I do absolutely love the PVZ franchise so I gave the Founder's Edition a try, and it was super fun.
5. Ice age scrat's nutty adventure
Release Date: 10/18
Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch
Developer: Just Add Water
Publisher: Outright Games
This one is an oddity for sure. There's no Ice Age movie to tie this into, but we are getting a random Ice Age game. Usually these types of B-rated move tie in games at least coincide with their movies but this is just randomly releasing now, in the business time of year for games. Not sure, but as a person who thought the movies were funny, especially "Scrat", I may check it out if the reviews don't completely bomb. For movie license games though, it is recommended to wait for reviews as 9/10 they are trash.
6. fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1
Release Date: 10/15
Platforms: PS4, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, Xbox One, PC
Developer: Epic Games
Publisher: Epic Games
In a stroke of genius Epic Games pulled one of the greatest (and kind of counter intuitive) marketing pushes in recent memory. They took the game offline. Moreso, they had a virtual Black Hole swallow up the entire map leaving the game with nothing but a Black Hole for about two days. Hundreds of thousands of people watched a twitch stream of a black hole. Epic was secretive on what this all meant, until revealing and releasing not season 11, but Chapter 2! with a whole new map and major updates in Ch. 2 Season 1. It was a perfect example of a clever marketing strategy to build anticipation for your game by taking it away from players for a bit.
