New Game Tuesday - August 2020

And here we go...

The three busiest months of the year for gaming releases are almost upon us. September, October, and November, better known as the Gaming Holiday Shopping Season, is right around the corner. Every year, every publisher on the planet tries to push out their biggest titles within weeks of each other. August often feels like a preamble, a slow build up to these massive three months. This year is no different, as August while still light, is definitely ramping up.

"New Game Tuesday" showcases some major game releases on the first Tuesday of the month! Scroll down to see if any of the major releases appeal to you!

1. Hyper Scape (season 1 and console launch)

Release Date: 8/11

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC

Developer: Ubisoft

Publisher: Ubisoft

Ubisoft is making a big play into the highly competitive world of free to play esports shooters and the highly saturated genre of Battle Royale. Ubisoft plans to stand out with gameplay innovations and aesthetics. Hyperscape launched in beta on PC earlier; however is now coming to console, alongside the season 1 of content. Hyperscape has several unique gameplay aspects such as a ghost scout mechanic when a player is downed, a alternate endgame scenario, and heavy twitch integration. It also has a much more futurist, cityscape aesthetic that makes it look very different from PUBG, Apex, Warzone, or Fortnite.

2. Fall Guys Ultimate Knockdown - Free at launch on Playstation Plus

Release Date: 8/4

Platforms: PS4, PC

Developer: Mediatonic

Publisher: Devolver Digital

August is giving us a SECOND battle royale game; however, it couldn't possibly be more different. This goofy cartoon game has players take control of these cute little characters in a chaotic showdown to the last Fall Guy standing. In a huge interesting twist, it is launching for free for Playstation Plus members on PS4. It is rare for a brand new game to be offered on PS Plus, especially one that many are looking forward to. With more Xbox owners becoming displeased with Games with Gold, Playstation came swinging with two 2020 titles free for PS Plus for August, and that's pretty exciting. I was excited for Fall Guys, but this surprise "free" aspect is a nice bonus.

3. Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)

Release Date: 8/18

Platforms: PC (first, Xbox at a later date)

Developer: Xbox Game Studios

Publisher: Xbox

Microsoft is about to release their much anticipated title, Flight Simulator first on PC. I found that decision to be very odd, and I just wrote an entire article about this subject, "Xbox announces yet another first party title coming to PC ahead of Xbox..." What I felt that meant, and my opinion on the matter can be found there. I think it has big implications for fan perception for the Xbox Series X and Microsoft's overall strategy for next gen.

Flight Simulator does look to be amazing, even to those like myself who never play sim games. The world is being generated by real satellite data. It will also contain dozens of hand crafted real airports. This game looks to be visually stunning as you can fly across a real depiction of the Earth. I can't wait for this game.

4. Horizon Zero Dawn - PC Release

Release Date: 8/7

Platforms: PS4, PC

Developer: Guerrilla Games

Publisher: Sony

One of the 2017's greatest games is coming to PC. Previously a PS4 exclusive, HZD is coming to PC. This reflects a recent strategy for a few Sony published games to come to PC. This comes as a perfect time for new fans to the franchise to catch up as we wait patiently for the 2021 release of Horizon 2. HZD is an incredible open world and one you should definitely check out.

5. madden 21

Release Date: 8/25

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC, Stadia, (Series X, PS5 later)

Developer: EA

Publisher: EA

Fans of Madden can look forward to the next installment, and thanks to EA's proprietary system "Duel Entitlement" it will be able to be received for free to owners of last gen copies when it comes to PS5 and Series X.

6. Final fantasy Crystal Chronicles remasters

Release Date: 8/8

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Original - GameCube, Android, iOS

Developer: Square Enix

Publisher: Square Enix

I recently became a fan of the Final Fantasy franchise. Final Fantasy 7 remake caused me to fall in love with the franchise. I have subsequently started playing through previous iterations. I'm currently enjoying Final Fantasy XV and XIV. I also started Lightning returns, and X. Now this month we are getting another exciting remaster of a previous title. If you are a fan of Final Fantasy, you should check out our new Gi Channel Final Fantasy Infinite for daily Final Fantasy cosplay, fan art, clips, screenshots, and news!

7. Wasteland 3

Release Date: 8/28

Platforms: Xbox One, PC, PS4

Developer: inXile Entertainment

Publisher: Deep Silver

Wasteland 3 is an upcoming top down RPG video game developed by inXile Entertainment and published by Deep Silver. Fans of the franchise can look forward to this post apocalyptic game, a sequel to Wasteland 2 as it is set to be released on August 28th, 2020 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
