New Game News - October 2020

New Game Tuesday is now New Game News! When New Game Tuesday shifted to a monthly format, I still had it come out on Tuesdays. However, as sometimes the first Tuesday of the month fell late into the month, some games were already out. Game Infinite has recently gone through a massive update in visual design. Our new uniform look brings a design aesthetic across posts regardless of news, game content, or community content. With this redesign, I am updating NGT into New Game News, which will come on the first of the month, to better prep our followers for major and exciting games coming out each month.

"New Game News" showcases some major game releases of the month! Scroll down to see if any of the major releases appeal to you!

1. Watchdogs legion

Release Date: 10/29

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC, Stadia, (PS5 and Xbox Series X at Console Launch)

Developer: Ubisoft

Publisher: Ubisoft

My history with Watchdogs is a bumpy one. I have been very vocal in past articles on my displeasure with the first game. How it's massive delays and graphical downgrade controversies all lead me to swearing off ever going back to the game. However, I was surprised when I allowed myself to get back on the hype train. Legion took me and many players by surprise when the game gave us an unprecedented promise. This game has NO NPC's. That is because NPC stands for Non-player Character, and in Legion, you can potentially recruit any "NPC" to the cause and play as them. What could easily have been as a gimmick, designed to obscure a "pseudo character creator", turned out to be as detailed as you would want. New technology is allowing for complex differences in character voices, and even the realization that some recruited characters might not be best for various missions. This game gives you the ability to recruit Grandpa for that high octane mission but he won't be great at it. This feature could easily have been surface deep, with the cast of characters sounding the same, doing the same things, and playing the same. However, characters you find will have different abilities, stories, and so much more. I can't wait to try this game out for myself.

2. Little Hope

Release Date: 10/30

Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, PC

Developer: Super Maissive Games

Publisher: Bandai Namco

I am so torn on my expectations for Little Hope. While on one hand, it's anthology predecessor "Man of Medan" is one of my lowest rated games from last year. It was an unfinished, buggy, and awful mess. It wasn't scary. The graphics were poor, for instance clothes looked like paint. It even had a nonsensical logic error in the end, as where I think it bugged out and the game scrambled to finish where one character seemed unbothered by the death of another. It was bad. However, the previous game to that, Until Dawn is one of my all time favorites, at least in the thriller/horror genre. That game had phenomenal graphics, and a intense story that perfectly balanced relying on horror tropes vs parodying them. So with Supermassive Games being 1 for 1 here, Little Hope could go either way. I care more for the story and "scare factor" to be great than the graphics if I have to choose, but hopefully this game will be closer to Until Dawn in terms of over all quality.

3. second extinction

Release Date: 10/13

Platforms: PC, Xbox One, (Xbox Series X at or near console launch)

Developer: Systemic Reaction, Avalanche Studios

Publisher: Systemic Reaction, Avalanche Studios

I love dinosaurs. I have often said that I find it absolutely astounding how rare they are in gaming. We have 103480394587349587 zombie games but actually games with dinosaurs are pretty rare. I don't understand why. They certainly are cool and make for excellent games. A game I would absolutely love to see would be something like Alien Isolation but with a dinosaur. Trapped in a destroyed beaten down lab with a terrifying deadly predator dinosaur like a velociraptor would be phenomenal.

What I don't really want is a game where dinosaurs are just swapped in for fast moving zombies and I have to mow down endless hoards of them. While I think dinosaurs make for good villains, they need to be that, villains and that's a problem I often feel when developers uses animals for enemies. It is a reason I hated Monster Hunter World. I really didn't like that game at all. It is a game about seeking out and killing animals in the wild that have done nothing to me. It's not the only game to have hunting for sport in games, but it was one of the ones I disliked the most. I just don't get the enjoyment of killing virtual animals for no reason. It's one thing if you are being attached, but going out into a virtual jungle and slaying some dragon creature that is just eating some grass...just doesn't do it for me. There is just a subtle and important difference between "monsters" that are hunting you down vs animals minding their own business. The worst game I have ever seen on this topic is a game called Journey to the Savage Planet. The game forces you to walk around an alien world and slaughter countless alien creatures who never attach you. It's just weird. Second Extinction to me just looks like another boring slaughter fest that just feels and looks meh.

If the dinosaurs were more strategic, more cunning, more of a threat, maybe they could feel like real villains instead of bland cannon fodder.

4. super Mario 35

Release Date: 10/1

Platforms: Nintendo Switch

Developer: Nintendo

Publisher: Nintendo

Super Mario 35 has one of the absolute strangest caveats about it's release I have ever seen in all my years of gaming. It is a multiplayer only game where it's shut down date is not only already planned for, but isn't even that far away. That's WEIRD. I honestly can't think of a time in my life when a game was announced and we already knew the last day we could play it. Usually multiplayer games only shut down due to failure to gather an audience or after years and years of lifetime. Never is the shut down planned for. This game is launching this month and the last day we could play it will be March 2021. That means the game will shut down only three months after Christmas when many gamers may have played the Switch for the first time. It is just weird! I don't get what Nintendo is thinking. The only thing I can think of is that this simple game is merely a tool to somehow drive Nintendo Online Memberships but even if that is it's sole purpose...why shut it down so soon? Let's say this game is super popular and it spikes Nintendo Online Memberships and it's a total success at doing that...shutting down the game just a few months later, wouldn't that just undo that? Shutting down so soon would just cause the Game of Thrones Off Season style "Membership Exodus" HBO struggled with for years. I just don't see their thinking.

Super Mario 35 takes essentially the most famous version of Mario in history, and forces gamers to compete with each other in a battle royale. It is more than just a time trial though for speed runners. Killing enemies for example will actually send enemies to other players, so this is about strategy just as much as speed.

5. pikmin 3 deluxe

Release Date: 10/30

Platforms: Nintendo Switch

Developer: Nintendo

Publisher: Nintendo

Over the last few years, the widely popular Nintendo Switch has made us long forget about the total failure of its predecessor the Wii U. Because all of 5 people bought a Wii U and 4 of them worked at Nintendo, Nintendo has been prioritizing giving us remasters in the form of Deluxe versions of the biggest Wii U titles to release. At this point few big games remain that have yet to come to Switch, and Pikmin 3 is one of the last. While $60 is a bit steep for an older 7 year old Wii U deluxe port, it has been standard procedure for Nintendo so far.

6. Crash 4

Release Date: 10/2

Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, (Xbox Series X at or near console Launch)

Developer: Toys for Bob

Publisher: Activision

I know nothing about Crash Bandicoot, never have played it, and honestly I have trouble keeping it straight from Rachet and Clank, the OTHER cartoony game for Playstation that I have never played. I know that both series have lots of fans so hey...here's another cartoon fox creature for you.

7. Wow shadowlands

Release Date: 10/27

Platforms: PC

Developer: Blizzard

Publisher: Blizzard

It really goes to show how much Advertisements have an effect on our subconscious because good God it is hard to type Shadowl... and not hear "sHaDoW LEgEndS PLAY NOW foR FrEe". And yes, you just heard it in your head too. No, not shadow legends, ...*checking again to make sure it's right* Shadow LANDS is almost here in a major expansion for WOW. As an outsider, I just don't understand how such an old game still matters to so much to players. However, I know that this OG still has a massive army behind it, and they are excited for this new expansion.

As always, stay tuned here on Game Infinite News for the latest gaming news! Check back next month for New Game Tuesday!
