Everything Announced at Opening Night Live - Gamescom 2023: Recap
Opening Night Live of Gamescom 2023 has come again in yet another Geoff Keighley lead super gaming show. Now the host of Gamescom, Summer Games Fest, and The Game Awards, our favorite gaming announcement super-host once again took to the stage to hype us up for the newest gaming trailers and announcements. It wasn't without its surprises, including Clinton Boy 2: Revenge of GTA 6. This event game with trailers on long quiet games, gameplay first looks at games we haven't seen gameplay much for yet, and full on game announcements.
Seeing the second major Keighley event of the year, and another in a longer list of events that have been strangely absent of anything from Kojima. Kojima and Keighley seemed to be a sure thing as the biggest bromance in the gaming industry, and it's odd that Kojima has been a no show at the last several of Keighley's events (despite having actual news to share, ie showing up at Apple's WWDC23).
Below is the full event, and check out our list of takeaways from the gaming industries biggest in person event.

Delta Force: Hawk Ops
Homeworld 3
Gamescom ONL's preshow ended with a trailer for Homeworld 3, with a release window of February 2024.
Starfield - Live Action Trailer
With a week to go until the biggest game of the year, and my most anticipated game, Starfield was a Sure bet to show up. We got a whole lot of nothing about the game as Todd Howard's inaugural appearance was a lot of PR speak and hype. That's ok. At this point, I don't want a lot of spoilers, I want to go in as blind as I am now.
Rebel Moon
One of the highlights of the event (oddly enough) had very little to do with gaming. I am a huge Zack Snyder, so seeing him come on stage was really exciting, even if he wasn't primarily to talk about games. We got a trailer at his new sci-fi film, Rebel Moon. What is really interesting is the backstory as this is widely known to be a movie that was supposed to be a Star Wars film. Zack Snyder pitched this movie as a Star Wars movie and Disney rejected it. He wanted to make a Star Wars movie with sex, swearing, and an R rating...and the Mouse said no.
Now we get Rebel Moon's Star Wars not Star Wars movie. To be honest I am intrigued because the last time this was done...we got Star Trek but not Star Trek and "the Orville" is fantastic. So why can't this not-star wars movie with even cooler lightsabers not be awesome?
Light Nightmares III
A beloved horror series got a surprise announcement of a third installment, complete with new characters and a co-op style gameplay.
Black Myth: Wukong
We haven't heard from the highly anticipated Black Myth: Waking in quite a while. This game may have broken the internet when it was announced, so people sure are excited for this monkey-souls like? I don't personally get it... but I am open to being wrong on this one.
Crimson Desert
Another game that has been MIA for a while, Crimson Desert got a surprise gameplay trailer. This game looked to be a beautiful UE5 power house showcase, and it looks to improve on its predecessor.
Payday 3
Ice-T intros the third installment of the robbery franchise.
Assassin's Creed Mirage
Assassin's Creed Mirage took the stage with a new trailer. Assassin's Creed Mirage will be released on 5th October and will be available on PlayStation, Xbox and PC.
Tekken 8
Tekken 8 doesn't want you to forget it's also coming in the post SF6 and upcoming MK1 world. It also got a trailer. The game will feature 32 fighters, a new single-player mode, "Arcade Quest". It will be released on 1-24-24.
Call of Duty: MW3
Modern Warfare 3 not only showed up, but it showed up with a full presentation and gameplay of the gamepaign. Once again, the MW sub-series looks like it is going to knock it out of the park!
Nightingale
Nightingale enters early access on 22nd February 2024
Zenless Zone Zero
From HoYoVerse, (the developers of Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail), Zenless Zone Zero (also known as ZZZ) is a new urban fantasy JRPG. This one looked really interesting and is more of this fun and exciting art style of the post-Genshin gaming landscape. They didn't stop there though as Honkai: Starrail also made an appearance below...ahead of its PlayStation 5 release.
Honkai: Star Rail
Lords of the Fallen
Lords of the Fallen, next with a new story trailer. This dark fantasy will be released on 13th October 2023.
Sonic Superstars
Superstars will be bringing the 2D Sonic to the modern era when it is released on 17th October.
The First Descendant
Next up is one that I have had on my radar for a little bit, but I think might be under looked. This new trailer only increased my excitement. The First Descendant gets a crossplay open beta for this game will drop from 19th to 25th September 2023.
Fort Solis
We see games inspire new sub-genres, but lately changes in the gaming landscape, and evolving technology, is seeing the gaming world phase in a new category. Super Indie? Indie-AAA? I don't know what this is called, but we are seeing the rise of games that are indie games technically, but can look and have the feel of AAA titles? They are arising in popularity, as the lines between indie and AAA games blur. Some of these are ex-AAA devs leaving to pursue their own studios, with massive teams. Some of these are rising by advances in technology allowing for AAA graphics to come out of smaller teams. Either way, Fort Solis looks to be an interesting horror sci-fi must try. It is available now.
Marvel Snap - Now on PC!
One of my daily addictions, our top 3 GOTY 2022 contender, our Mobile GOTY 2022, and an over all must try game, Marvel Snap is just a fantastic game, with quality community support and updates. I play it almost daily, and cannot recommend it enough. But if you go "eww mobile games" then this news is for you as the game is leaving it's very mobile-like early access on PC and launching with full native PC support and widescreen. Forget this is on mobile and go play the steam version.
Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon
Next, a look at Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, releasing on 25th August. I have just one question on this game that no is apparently asking, (or is too afraid to ask) and no one can answer me. Will AC6 be a From Software level of difficulty type game? Will the majority of players struggle to beat the first level? Will I play for 2 hours and make no progress? I just need to know if this requires super-natural, super-human skill to play or can the rest of us enjoy it.
MK1
We were given a new trailer for Mortal Kombat 1. It brought us a new longer glimpse at the combat. You can play on 19th September.
Alan Wake 2
Alan Wake 2 brought Gamescom 2023 Opening Night Live to end.
Developed by Remedy, Alan Wake 2 recently had its release date pushed back to 27th October to avoid some other releases.
