This year's game Awards was packed filled with amazing news that got me off the couch in excitement. Here are some noteworthy wins and game news complete with trailers.
GOTY 2021 - It Takes Two
INDIE GOTY 2021 - Kena Bridge of Spirits
Star Wars Eclipse
Nothing made me scoot to the edge of my seat in pure, unbridled nerdy excitement as seeing Lucasfilm Games logo appear on screen at the game awards. Is it Jedi Fallen Order 2? Is it anything? What proceeded next was an absolutely gorgeous cinematic trailer. Funny thing is I JUST talked about this rumored game in the article earlier this week, "Every Star Wars Game we know about" and tonight we got the beautiful look at this new game. Set in the High Republic, Quantic Dream is making the next Star Wars title to be revealed. QD is known for their absolutely phenomenal visuals and character models. While this was a cinematic trailer, to be honest, it would not surprise me at all if the characters in the game look as good as they do in the trailer from QD's track record. This game just shot itself to the top of my anticipation lists.
Wonder Woman
One small teaser that also really stole some excitement was the reveal that WB is working on a Wonder Woman game! We are in a golden age of super heroes and that is now extending to video games with more and more amazing games releasing around super heroes, I can't explain how excited I am for my favorite female super hero to be getting her own game. Plus the design they went with for Wonder Woman is just iconic and classic. Hopefully this will be a narrative single player experience more in kin with Spiderman or Guardians of the Galaxy, and nothing out their like the failed Avengers game.
Alan Wake 2
Fans were surprised with Alan Wake, beloved horror game getting a surprise sequel announcement, now with a emphasis on survival horror.
Halo TV Series - Paramount+ Trailer
It is a good time to be a Halo fan. With Halo Infinite finally here and in great polished quality, and now finally the long promised Halo TV series is finally actually probably still happening. I will believe it when it actually playing on my screen. There have been multiple Halo tv show projects that have been cancelled and rebooted, along with film projects that failed. I remember sitting way back during the actual Xbox One reveal, hearing them talk about a Halo show. Here we are a year in to the Xbox One's successor 8ish years later, and still no Halo show. This trailer...looks beautiful, and I can't wait to have it.
Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2
I really really want to get into the Warhammer universe. I love sci-fi and fantasy and it just looks so fascinating. But I will say as an outsider to the franchise it intimidating to know where to start. Warhammer cranks out so so sooooo many games each year, and the list of existing Warhammer games is 40k...ilometers long. I have always wanted to play Space Marine because it is one of the few games in the massive list of Warhammer games that is a third person shooter, and it looks really fun but I have never gotten around to it. Now that a sequel is announced, now I have an excuse to play this game.
Star Trek Resurgence
I would have bet money we would have seen more Star Wars or Halo or super hero games, but I did not expect to see anything Star Trek at all! It has been so long since we have gotten a non-mobile, non-VR Star Trek game! This looks to be like some kind of 3rd person Captain sim. I will say that the initial trailer looks a little rough, and I hope this game is polished and quality upon release.
Thanks!
