New Game News - JUNE 2021

(This article will focus on new game releases, not necessarily games that launched previously but have their next-gen versions arriving, but may include major game seasonal updates or expansions, or "major" ports.)

June has arrived. June is known more for being the month where we get all the big summer gaming news with events like E3, Summer of Gaming, and more. However, Despite a focus on what's next, June 2021 offers an exciting list of new games that will surely excite gamers.

"New Game News" showcases some major game releases of the month! Scroll down to see if any of the major releases appeal to you!

1. Rachet and Clank: Rift Apart

Release Date: 6/11/21

Platforms: PS5

Developer: Insomniac Games

Publisher: Sony

Rachet and Clank will be quite an interesting launch. The PS5 has been a little light on must have new next-gen exclusives. The PS5 has been relying heavily on backwards compatibility, and frequent and easy flowing PS5 upgrades for PS4 games. In fact, I am more excited to play PS4 titles like Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Last of Us Part 2 with their PS5 upgrades. So far next-gen console exclusives like Returnal and Godfall are nothing to buy a PS5 for. Rift Apart aims to be the first big first party exclusive for the PS5 that fans are clamoring for.

The most interesting thing about this title launch, is that I hope Sony will temper their expectations, as I think sales numbers will surprise them. On one hand, those who have PS5's will probably buy the game. On the other hand, here we are 9 months later after launch and to this day it is still near impossible to buy a PS5. The reseller market is absolutely rampant, with millions of consoles still in the hands of scalpers instead of gamers. The gamers who do buy from resellers are doing it at twice the price, leaving them with less money to buy more games. I will say that if I paid 1200 for a PS5, I would only be buying games I absolutely wanted. I think that the availability of the PS5 will definitely have an impact on this games sales, because Sony is refusing to acknowledge their reseller problem. The millions of consoles sitting in resellers houses does nothing to sell games. This game could be a "system seller" if frankly there was a way to just go to Amazon, Target, Best Buy, Gamestop, and just order a PS5, get on a waitlist, instead of playing 3AM whack-amole with bots trying to snag an order that sell out in minutes.

That being said, regardless of how well the game sells initially, I know fans are excited for the game. It promises to be the first game to really deliver full benefits of PS5 as a game engineered to work on next-gen only, instead of being just a better version of a PS4 game. The world jumping and quick loading new maps made only possible on PS5 SSD, is something that excites a lot of gamers.

2. Scarlet Nexus

Release Date: 6/25/21

Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S

Developer: Bandai Namco

Publisher: Bandai Namco

The game I am most looking forward to in June is Scarlet Nexus. I have been wanting to play this game for awhile, and there have been some that came before it. This game looks and feels much like Astral Chain and Code Vein. I want to play an anime-inspired action game. I felt Astral Chain was held back by the Nintendo Switch hardware, and Code Vein was a Dark Souls Anime that looked cool but didn't resonate with me. I'm hoping the third time's the charm. This game looks phenomal both visually and in gameplay. If you like anime or stylistic high octane gameplay, this might be a sleeper hit for 2021.

3. Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2

Release Date: 6/4/21

Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S

Developer: CI Games

Publisher: CI Games

I have never played the Sniper series and the titles just seem to keep getting longer and pumping out these games with now Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2. From what I hear, these games are good and enjoyable from those who play it. If you are looking for a new military franchise to try, this one might be a great one to check out. The Contracts sub-series of SGW breaks away from the open world and offers a more linear story, with back to a focus of pure sniping.

4. Chivalry II

Release Date: 6/8/21

Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S

Developer: Torn Banner Studios

Publisher: Tripware Interactive, Deep Silver

Does a first person medieval simulator sound interesting to you? Well if it does, you might be interested in Chivalry II. The much anticipated sequel will put players into the action of a medieval warrior and promises to fulfill all our needs when it comes to the glory, gold, or kingdom.

5. Dungeons and Dragons: Dark Alliance

6. ESO Gates of Oblivan Expansion
