New Game News - NOVEMBER 2021

November is upon us and with it is coming so of the biggest games of the year. As publishers and developers push to get their games out at almost the last possible month before the Holiday shopping takes off, November promises to be a big month in a relatively quiet year for games. This month is absolute A list event with some of the biggest names and largest franchises such as Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Forza, Final Fantasy and Just Dance all arriving with something.

"New Game News" showcases some major game releases of the month! Scroll down to see if any of the major releases appeal to you!

Note: Due to ongoing COVID-19, release dates are not final, and the chance of even last minute delays is high.

1. Call of Duty Vanguard

Release Date: 11/5/21

Platforms: PC, XSX and S, PS5, PS4, Xbox One's

Developer: Sledgehammer Games

Publisher: Activision

To me, Cold War was a massive disappointment that caused me, a long time Call of Duty fan to waiver. So much so that I'm not sure how much Vanguard will be an insta-buy for me like it usually is. Coldwar was such a bland sports game level copy/paste job that I don't even know why it took all hands on deck to finish it in time for release. That being said, I am a fan of Sledgehammer games, so I only hope that they can course correct COD back to the quality that was Modern Warfare and BO4 with Cold War being just a COVID-destroyed fluke.

2. Battlefield 2042

Release Date: 11/19/21

Platforms: PC, XSX and S, PS5, PS4, Xbox One's

Developer: DICE

Publisher: EA

Another game that is giving me mixed feelings is Battlefield 2042. Battlefield looks so incredibly fun and fresh, but Battlefield V is still very fresh in minds of gamers like me. I bought the premium edition to BFV back then and that game was just super un-fun, broken, unpolished, and unfinished. By reducing down to a multiplayer only game, Can DICE deliver a fresh and new quality game? Will being a premium multiplayer only game hurt it's player base? Will releasing so close to Vanguard hurt sales? If Vanguard stumbles and Battlefield 2042 hits it out of the park will this be the year BF finally outsells COD? I have many mixed feelings, but I will say, the environment effects like tornados and sand storms look really fun and adding some diverse gameplay to what could have been an otherwise bland experience.

3. Just Dance 2022

Release Date: 11/4/21

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC, XSX and S, PS5, PS4, Xbox One's, Stadia

Developer: Ubisoft

Publisher: Ubisoft

Some franchises are as inevitable as Death and Taxes. COD. Just Dance. So, yes: another year, and another Just Dance game.

4. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition

Release Date: 11/11/21 (digital), Physical in December, Mobile in 2022

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC, XSX and S, PS5, PS4, Xbox One's

Developer: Rockstar

Publisher: Rockstar

I don't know how I feel about the GTA trilogy remaster. I have an opinion that any game older than 2007-2009 wish should really have developers start talking about Remakes instead of Remasters. I recently played through the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, and Mass Effect 1's remaster I think represents the 2007 limit of how far back remasters can go without their age still leaking through. ME1's remaster is borderline remake in how much it needed an overhaul and still feels like a really really pretty 2007 game (albeit an amazing one). The GTA trilogy games span from 2001-2004 and even with the BEST remaster I question if it will be enough paint to make them worth it in 2021. Now, I speak as someone who isn't a longtime fan of the franchise, but mostly an outsider. I've only ever played a little bit of 5, and never the originals of these. I can understand perhaps, mega fans of these three games having a "better this than nothing" attitude. However, I wonder, if perhaps picking one of the games and doing a full remake on a modern engine might have been more well received. These games are mega popular, and have the potential to make a lot of money. It would have served even better to hold off fans who are waiting for 6. That all being said, I am keeping an open mind. For those in a similar boat, unsure if three remasters of two decade old games are worth 60$, San Andreas is coming to Xbox Game Pass.

5. Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker Expansion

Release Date: 11/23/21

Developer: Square Enix

Publisher: Square Enix

Forza Horizon 5 is the newest racing video game developed by Playground Games and published by Xbox Game Studios. It will be the 5th Forza Horizon title and 12th main instalment in the Forza series. The game is set in a fictional version of Mexico. It will also be coming day one to Xbox Game Pass, and promises it's well known industry leading and next-gen graphics.

7. Jurassic World Evolution 2

Release Date: 11/9/21

Platforms: PC, XSX and S, PS5, PS4, Xbox One's

Developer: Frontier Developments

Publisher: Frontier Developments

I regret so much that I never got around to playing the first Jurassic World Evolution because I have heard nothing but good things. It also is very similar to a game that I play countless hours in as a kid Operation Genesis. I loved build Dino-parks as a kid, and this would be a huge nostalgia trip for me. EVO2 is supposed to be even bigger and better than the widely praised original, and it is coming out on November 9th.

8. Apex Legends Season 11: Escape
