Shaya_fury - Creator Interview

We have been long time followers of the incredible fan art from Shaya_fury, discovering them thanks to our Gi Channel Mass Effect Infinite. Shaya is a fellow Mass Effect super fan, with an obvious passion for this franchise and universe of characters. It is hard to really show the scope of amazing Mass Effect art in Shaya's catalog here in this interview, as we were only able to show a batch of their amazing pieces. In addition to Mass Effect, Shaya also delivers incredible fan art for other IP's as well, and we think that they will resonate with our readers.

Shaya_fury Interview -

Game Infinite: What drew you to fan art? Tell us about your journey as an artist, and how you got started? That is a good question!

Shaya_fury: The thing that drew me to making fan art is that I wanted to show the characters the way I see them! I see the good in them and I want to share what I see in them. Plus let's face it there are some amazing characters with beautiful background stories that can touch you in so many ways and you can recognise yourself in them. About my artist journey … well I started when I was a kid and I have dreamed to be an artist or to do something related to art.

Gi: How do you balance staying true to the original source material while adding your unique touch? You have a unique style that is instantly recognizably you.

Shaya_fury: I think it comes with practice. To have to understand the original source and to “read between the lines” sort of speak about the character or the subject matter that one is observing. After that I just go with my touches of colours to make it the way I like it. Plus I am more impressionist  when I am drawing traditionally so I transfer the same touches digitally. Thank you for thinking my style is unique!

(Shaya_fury Mass Effect Fanarts - Their library of Mass Effect art is huge, and we wanted to showcase a good amount of it here, but they defintely have more for you to see on their page!)

Gi: Mass Effect is clearly a main focus for you. For our Gi Channel Mass Effect Infinite community, tell us what you love so much about Mass Effect?

Shaya_fury: Oh… where do I start. First I love space, always have! In Mass Effect I love the story and the universe that BioWare created. I really do like that I can travel through the stars and other solar systems, visiting planets and enjoying the beautiful work by the BioWare team. I really do feel the characters. That is one thing that really does matter to me when I am playing a game, reading a book or watching a show, movie etc. The connection between the characters with their unique story, quests and looks brings it all together.

Gi: Which Mass Effect character do you find most challenging to capture in your art? Do you have a favorite character to draw?

Shaya_fury: Thinking about that now… maybe Joker ( do have to admit that I have drawn him once or twice) and Kaiden are some of the challenging ones…  On the question who is my favorite to draw hands down Tali and Garrus plus both male and female Shepard! If you look of my sketchbook tours you can see a lot of Tali fan arts in almost all of them

Gi: What role does community feedback play in your work? How are you inspired to draw new pieces?

Shaya_fury: Honestly a huge role since in my country where I am from most of the people (the general public) did not care for my work. Not only personal but also fan art. Seeing someone get inspired by my own work… This is just WOW… humbling, honoring, grateful and thankful! I never imagined something like that! I am so grateful for everything I was given. Thank God for everything.

I get inspired from a lot of things - music, movies, books, landscapes, dreams, games and all sorts of things and situations. Sometimes it is just an idea and I just sit and start drawing and I see it in my head and try my best to apply to the paper what I see in my imagination.

(Misc. Fanart)

Gi: In addition to Mass Effect, we love your recent Assassin’s Creed and Baldur’s Gate 3 pieces. Can you tell us more about them?

Shaya_fury: Yeah! First of all I am also a fan of Assassin's Creed and Baldur's Gate 3 and I just want to show some of the characters through my eyes. Some of the pieces you have seen are commissions, others are fan art I wanted to add to my art gallery in my artstyle and to share a common love of them. So we can all enjoy the creative minds behind these characters with their voice actors ( who are doing an amazing job), designs and story. I think that is something we all are drawn to when we get introduced to a new character we like.
