Game Awards 2018 Recap - (Part 1) AWARD WINNERS

This year's Game Awards event was jammed packed with content. We got to see many of our favorite personalities in gaming on stage, and some really talented teams walked away proud. This year's ceremony was a whopping 3 hours long, so I have divided this recap in two parts. Part 1 breaks down the winners of the awards, while Part 2 will recap some of the many announcements, updates, and reveals that dropped during the awards. If you only came for GOTY, I can't blaim you...it's at the end. For clarification, this is a news report of the winners of the official "Game Awards" ceremony. The chosen winners were not chosen by Game Infinite, nor necessarily reflective of Gi's choices. Game Infinite will be discussing its own end of year lists at a later point. Is this a surprise to anyone?

Biggest Game Awards 2018 Snubs:

Some amazing games this year that deserved to walk away with an award but got robbed.

Detroit Become Human: This was an amazing game, that I am totally shocked wasn't even nominated for GOTY. This is an amazing game that deserves awards for it's performaces, story, and direction. Over all I think this is the biggest snub of the night.

Donut County: This game wasn't even nominated for best Indie Game, and yet it deserved to win it. It also was robbed of best mobile game. Definitely pick this one up!

Call of Duty Black Ops 4: The Game Awards suffers from the same problem as the Oscars. It favors artistry over popularity. Often times movies none of us have ever heard of win awards, while major block busters are ignored. I love artistic video games believe me, but there needs to be recofnition for all game types too. Call of Duty Black Ops 4 is a member of the biggest gaming franchis in history, and it got nothing. The Game Awards isn't as bad as the Oscars (Fortnite got way to much attention for that), but Black Ops deserved to win SOMETHING.

"GAME OF THE YEAR 2018" WINNER: GOD OF WAR

Nominees: God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2, Monster Hunter World, Celeste, Spiderman, Assassin's Creed Odyssey

God of War also wins "Best Game Direction"

Nominees: A Way Out, Detroit Become Human, God of War, Spiderman, Red Dead Redemption 2

God of War also wins "Best Action Adventure"

Assassin's Creed Odyssey, God of War, Spiderman, Red Dead Redemptions 2, Shadow of the Tomb Raider

While this came as a total surprise to me, I stood up out of my chair and cheered as my vote won GOTY. I was totally expecting Red Dead to sweep this one as well. I am totally happy with this result. However, It does somewhat show the inconsistent logic of the decisions behind the Game Awards. If Red Dead Redemption 2 truly had the best Narrative, Performance, Music, and Audio Design "over God of War", then how did God of War win GOTY? I don't know, but I agree.
