Indie Game Round Up - August 2023

Infinite Summer 23 was a huge push, our big Summer gaming event. This massive event with our first ever Indie Game Showcase featured dozens of guests and games. It was a lot of fun, and a lot of work to bring in so many games and creators. Considering how many games we got included in Infinite 23, it took a little while to get enough content ready for our returning Indie Game Round Up. I am happy to say, that our first Indie Game Round Up article since Infinite Summer 23, does not disappoint, as we have some truly incredible games to talk about this month. We bring you first hand gameplay, brand new trailers, and even some kickstarter news. For our new readers, IGRU is our monthly series where we find and feature amazing Indie Games upcoming or recently released that you need to know about. Below are several amazing Indie Games we think need to be on your wishlist! We feature trailers, insights, gameplay, and or interviews as we highlight indie games we think you should know about.

We are NOT receiving any spiff or commission from recommending these creators. They are simply DEVELOPERS and GAMES we enjoy and recommend to our audience.

These creators have not paid for this feature and may or may not be affiliated with Game Infinite. Some creators may be GiFreinds members, but GiFriends is a free program. Content used with permission or content we own / self generated. Content is not featured in any particular order. Artist quality is our opinion, and we cannot guarantee that you will be satisfied with their work or time table if you commission them or purchase these games. This List is a collection, in NO PARTICULAR ORDER. This IS NOT a ranking.

1. Eternights - Game Infinite Gameplay

Prepare to be enchanted by the upcoming indie game "Eternights." This captivating adventure promises players an immersive journey through a mystical world, rich with unique gameplay mechanics and an enchanting narrative. With its evocative art style, innovative gameplay, and a narrative that promises to tug at heartstrings, "Eternights" is poised to become a standout title in the indie gaming scene, offering an experience that captures both imagination and emotion. We were able to play the pre-release demo, and can already see this being on of our top games of the year. It is fun, visually stunning, and intriguing. This game feels like indie on AAA budget and definitely needs to be on your radar.

2. Viewfinder - Game Infinite Gameplay

"Viewfinder," an indie game breaking new ground, combines puzzles and perspective in a fresh way. Players manipulate their viewpoint to solve intricate puzzles, unveiling hidden paths and altering objects. The game's surreal landscapes draw inspiration from optical illusions, creating an immersive atmosphere. As players delve into the mysteries of this world, the narrative intersects with the gameplay, encouraging introspection. With its innovative mechanics and artistic style, "Viewfinder" promises to reshape how players approach puzzles and narratives alike. Viewfinder is one of the best games we have played this year so far, and is an easy INDIE GOTY, and GOTY 2023 contender. If this one isn't on your radar, it needs to be.

3. Stellar Watch

Stellar Watch - @StellarWatch_gg

We met the developers working on Stellar Watch back at Momocon 2023, and fell immediately in love with this beautiful little space shooter. It invokes childhood memories of Asteroids on my Gameboy color, but of course with a modern and albeit beautiful art style. Check this one out!

4. LUCID - Kickstarer Announcement!

We have been following LUCID for quite some time now. They were a part of the Wave 1 of Indie Games we partnered with in our Game Infinite Youtube Indie Project, and Eric, the Lead Director at Matteblack Studios has been a guest on Infinite Summer and State of Gaming on multiple occasions. We are very excited to help share the news that LUCID's kickstarter is coming very soon, and you can follow it now! LUCID is a 2d metroidvania type game with a stunning art style that we really think you should check out.

If you would like to learn more about the game, you can watch out full developer interview below!

5. Awaken: Astral Blade - New Trailer!

We have been following Awaken Astral blade for quite some time, as the game was part of the first wave of games we featured when we launched the indie trailer project on our Game Infinite Youtube Channel. We even interviewed the developer behind this incredible looking game, and played the demo ourself. We are very excited for it, and couldn't be more excited to share this latest trailer #3, watching how this game has evolved and improved as we grow closer to launch.

You can go back and watch the interview below!

6. Kagura Surviviors - Game Infinite Gameplay

We play more of the "Survivor's-like" as we're calling it, as it the first game we have seen since the explosion in popularity of our last years INDIE GOTY, Vampire Survivors. Kagura takes that inspiration and delivers an admittedly very similar game, but not without its own innovations. We enjoy the gameplay and mechanics is updates and enjoy this game just as much.

7. Axiom of Maria

With Unreal and the post-Cyberpunk 2077 gaming landscape, we have seen an explosion in cyberpunk style indie games. However, Axiom manages to stand apart with its high octane action and quality of effort. We think this one could be one to watch as we can't wait to see more on this project.

8. Whisker Squadron

I actually met the developers behind Whisker Squadron many years ago back at a Wisconsin con back when I lived back there. The are most well known for "Race the Sun" a beautiful indie game where you play as a space ship (as the name would suggest) that needs to "chase the sun". Whisker Squadron looks to improve upon the visual beautiful of flying ships in a nostalgic style. We absolutely can't wait for this one!

9. Into Samomor

Another exciting and unique looking game we are excited to share for this IGRU. Into Samomor's art style and retro gameplay intrigued us since we first discovered it. If you love this art style, and this style of games, this is a must watch for your wishlist.
