The Game Awards 2023 - All Awards Winners
This years Game Awards have arrived and with it, a huge list of reveals and and announcements worthy of a major E3 style summer showcase, in addition to the main draw of the show, the Awards themselves.
In an incredibly jam packed event, I was impressed by the quantiy of trailers and announcements we got for an awards show. I will say that while I am probably in the vast minority on this opinion, because I love trailers and news as much as the next gamer, part of me wishes this show focused more on the awards and less on news. I wish that they did less of the "rapid fire" awards where there's no announcemets, trophy, or speech on stage, and more of the traditional ones. I would like to see more categories, and suggest some like "Best Innovation in Gaming Technology" or "Most Exciting new Video Game Character". I would like to see some more reflecting back on games released this year; More focus on current games. For a show about celebrating the year in gaming, so much of it is about future titles. That is just my opinion, I know the trailers and appearances draw people in, draw in sponsors, and bring in the big studios. I think Geoff does an incredible job balancing it, I just want more Awards and Celebrations and less news.
That being said, the show did bring some incredible announcements along with the winners. As expected, Baldur's Gate 3 swept the show winning many awards it was included in. Most of the GOTY nominees won at least one award in a different category with the biggest snub being Spider-man 2 winning nothing despite having 7 nominations. Below I will share the winners in each category, followed by my Top 10 Trailers and announcements from the show in a second article!
