Nintendo Direct 8/8 Recap

See the full Direct above For those of you who slept through yesterday's Nintendo Direct that aired at a very early AM for many of us in the states, here is a recap of a short but sweet Direct focused entirely on Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Nintendo reiterated their position that Super Smash Bros is going to be one of the largest games they've produced. Both literally and figuratively. The game will require 16gb of space on the switch, meaning some may need to buy SD expansion if they don't have enough remaining space. The game is also the biggest video game cross over ever, with more characters from more franchises than ever before. Nintendo announced that Ultimate is going to have by far the most stages of any game in the series to date with a total of 103. Some older stages will be updated and remastered and improved, while some older N64 era stages have been brought with a design esthetic for nostalgia with the old style appearances.

Also announced is the cool news that the game is going to have a ridiculous music library, allowing players to choose songs from a franchise to play on stages. The game is going to include over 800 tracks with over 28 hours of music!

Nintendo also announced several new fighters and echo fighters for the game than were previously announced. For those of you don't know, an echo fighter is essentially little more than a special "skin" for an existing character, but with a different character. Echo fighters are reskins of a character with a similar 3D model and animations, but as a different character altogether, with different voice prints.

Dark Samus is an example of an newly announced echo fighter. Echo fighters can be displayed as different fighters on the character screen or pinned on top of the original character. This choice is up to the player how they are displayed. Also announced is Chrom from the Fire Emblem series (Echo fighter for Roy)

More new characters include King K. Rool villain from the Donkey Kong Series and Simon Belmont from the Castlevania series with his main weapon being his signature whip.

A new mode called Stage Morph was announced. The Stage Morph option will let players choose to have a map transition between two different stages. Many new weapons coming to the game include the Banana Gun, Killing Edge, Bomber, Death’s Scythe, Staff, Ramblin’ Evil Mushroom and Rage Blaster, among others.

Nintendo also announced a really cool training mode where players can easily map out distance and power of moves and practice with characters they are not used too.

There is also the new "Tourney Mode" where up to 32 players can play in a tournament style mode that looks really fun for groups or parties. Another new mode is "Smashdown". After a battle is over in this mode, players are forced to chose a different fighter for the next round.

In addition to the direct, we also learned that there is going to be a special Limited Edition of Super Smash Bro Ultimate. At the time of this writing, it is not yet available in the US, but we expect to know more soon. The game includes a limited edition box, a gamecube super smash themed controller with said adapter.
